Stephanie & Joshua Wedding Reception – Anderson, SC Wedding Photographer

May 31st, 2012

Ok, so as we’ve already established I’m pretty bad at the whole blogging scene. Anyway, I have had some photography opportunities in the past few months.

With all that aside, I give you Stephanie and Joshua…

Jody & Eric – Vow Renewal

January 14th, 2012

So, I’m working on blogging more. I’d like to share a few pictures of a vow renewal my brother and I shot.

They renewed their vows for their 20th Anniversary. They’ve been a couple for 25 years. It was such a sweet event and I was honored to be the one to to help preserve the memories.

Winston & Chelsie – 2 Cute Dogs

December 21st, 2011

Boy oh boy have I ever been slacking on the blog posts, sorry about that. I will do my best to update the blog with some new pictures over the holidays.

Several weeks ago I had the opportunity to photograph a couple of super cute/super sweet dogs.

Finally posted a new album, with a couple of super cute dogs, on our Facebook page!

Letting go is hard…

August 2nd, 2011

I’ve been absent here the past couple of weeks. Sorry. First I went to Rhode Island to see a friend I haven’t seen in 5 years. It was a great. When I got home other things piled up. Last but not least, last week our family dog passed away. She was 15 and had thyroid cancer. It’s been a hard few days around here. Happy was a very friendly and sweet dog and her name suited her well! She was the last of 4 dogs that have been part of our lives for the last 23 years!

A photography only blog?

July 6th, 2011

As much as this is my photography blog and I try to keep things photography related, I realized you don’t know much about me – outside of my “About Me” page that is. So on Wednesdays, I’m going to partner up with the Lollipops blog for “What I love Wednesdays”.

Here is what I love…
I seem to be on a “dream home” kick today.

I’m into architecture, it is something that has fascinated me for years. Here are a few pictures that show what architecture I’m into – especially today.

This home is on one of the islands outside of Charleston.

More pics of this house here:

I feel like singing “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music.

Hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July! I’ll be off the blog for a  few days because I’m going to see a friend I haven’t seen in 5 years. So exciting. I’ll be back next week with new posts.

A morning in Charleston

July 4th, 2011

Last Monday I had the fabulous opportunity to spend the day in Charleston, SC. I got a lot of good pictures of the unique houses, some flowers (those pics coming in another post) and a sunburn (you won’t find any pics of that ;) ). Here are a few pictures…

I love the roots of this old tree. It would help, however, if the truck in the picture was an antique ;) .

In Battery Park. I love these displays.

An appropriate picture for the 4th of July!

A super cool fountain that doubles as a mini splash park for kids (and adults) when it’s hot out. Don’t know if you can tell, but the fountain is shaped like a pineapple.

Caroline + Craig Wedding – Teaser

June 29th, 2011

I apologize for being so behind on blogging. So, to make up for that, here is a teaser of a wedding I shot recently.

When I met Caroline more than 10 years ago, little did I know I would have the pleasure of capturing the memories of her wedding.

I’ll admit the church was a bit dark and I’m not a fan of using flash too much during the ceremony. My brother 2nd shot for me. The best man, Wally, also took some fabulous pictures.

The wedding happened in May near West Palm Beach, FL. It was a gorgeous day outside, however we ended up with the sun almost directly overhead as the wedding was at 11am, so we were shooting outside right around 12 noon.

I’m really happy with what we ended up with picture wise. Here are some of the highlights.

Flash Diffusers

May 18th, 2011

This is a different kind of post than I’ve done on here before, however I feel it’s something worth covering. Most of the photographers I’ve worked with use some kind of diffuser on their flash. For those of you that don’t know what a flash diffuser is or how it works, I’ll try to cover those area briefly.

Flash diffusers put some kind of fabric or plastic between your flash and your subject, whatever it may be. They help to soften the light that hits your subject. Below are just a few diffuser examples, there are many more available than what I’ve shown (there are also a plethora of ideas on homemade diffusers).

Now I will get on to my review. I have nothing against any of the diffusers shown above. I’ve just found from my use that I love Interfit’s Stobies – on camera flash diffusers. Not only can they be used as diffusers, but they can also be used as a small bounce light. 2 in 1? Works for me!

I know a lot of you are on a budget, as am I. So when I was on the prowl for a diffuser I didn’t want to break the bank. I bought my diffusers from Amazon and certainly didn’t break the bank in doing so.

Here are a couple of images, one without diffused flash, the other two with.

Without diffuser

I like the softer look with the diffuser on. Not such harsh shadows and not washing out colors. Definitely a plus for me!

With diffuser

Now for a few pictures of the diffuser on my camera – I apologize for the image quality, I really dislike my point and shoot, sorry.

These diffusers fold neatly into their own pouch when not in use.

If you can’t tell by now I love these. I’ve used them in portrait shoots and weddings. Some of my other equipment will come and go, but these will remain a staple in my camera bag.

If you’re interested in buying these, I’ve included the Amazon links below. They are available in both small and large. Small is great if you only use your on camera pop up flash, the large is great if you use the full flash, like a Canon speedlite 430 or 580. I bought both diffusers in preparation for one day getting a “big” flash, but right now I just use my pop up flash and it does great!

Happy shooting!
